… of our beloved Grandad who passed away 2 weeks ago. We paid our tributes and said our goodbyes to him Thursday just gone. The service went as well as could be expected, we had the opportunity to share our favourite memories of him as well as hear how he is remembered by others. A lot of relatives and friends turned up on Thursday reminding us of how much he was loved.
When I think of my Grandad I have many happy memories, like how you always knew when he was about to say something because he would give a little cough before he spoke or how he always had his shiny black hair slicked back before he would come downstairs in the morning, but as soon as the takeaway closed the hair would become unslicked and he would let it fall around his face, like he was saying “ok shop is closed, no need to look so handsome”. Perhaps my favourite memories of him are those where he is laughing. When he laughs his face breaks out into a huge smile, he squints his eyes and his shoulders shake but there is never any sound!! It didn’t matter what you were doing or what you were saying you couldn’t help but laugh along with him!
However, what stands out most about our Grandad and what I will always remember is his positive attitude. He never seemed to let anything bother him. He always believed that things would get better and would always tell us to keep looking on the bright side no matter how bad things might seem.
Beloved Grandad, a gentleman, our protector, our hero and above all else our friend, you will be sorely missed but you will live on in our memories, may you rest in peace.

Escapism at lunchtime
L-R
cuppa, the magicians, nata (Portuguese custard tart)
I have had a regular date with these 3 items for the past couple of weeks. I’m usually fed by work when we have an event on so when I’m on my lunch break - without having to feed myself whatever sandwiches are left over in Waitrose, I indulge myself with a cup of tea and some cake (how quintessentially British) whilst I drift off into the fantasy land of Brakebills and Fillory.
I’ve since finished The Magicians and am waiting (not so) patiently for JP to lend me the sequel - The Magician King, however, she is in Florida on holiday so I’m counting down the days to her return…only 10 to go
Toffee Apple Crumble from Giraffe
It looks tasty but it really wasn’t - much to my disappointment. The crumble on top was made from oats and raisins and not the normal soft crumbly butter and flour mixture, it was also bit burnt and hard to chew. The menu says that there was “enough for 2 to share” also not true…2 children perhaps, and it has nothing to do with the fact that I am a greedy so and so ;)
I’m now renaming it “Grumble Crumble”
